Enugu – The Police Command in Enugu State says it will hold town hall meetings as part of efforts to address security challenges in the state.
The command’s spokesman, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Saturday.
Amaraizu said that the town hall meetings would be held at the three senatorial zones, and it was aimed at addressing emerging security threats.
“It is a strategic initiative of the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase, aimed at promoting community policing practices toward addressing our security challenges.
“It is also aimed at tackling concerns like misinformation, rumour mongering, anxiety as well as animosity generated after recent attacks.
“We hope to use the forum to promote community policing that will make every member of the community crucial to protecting the community.
“We also want to use the meetings to promote values and other interests,’’ he said.
He said that the platform would also encourage dialogue between all disagreeing parties within any community.
He said key stakeholders expected at the meetings were community leaders, elders, herdsmen, public officials, religious leaders and youth bodies.
The others were local vigilante groups, Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) members, sister security agencies and the media. (NAN)
