Despite the threat of soldiers led by the APC to shoot on sight, Abonnema stood their ground, refusing to allow soldiers take innocent PDP leaders to Abuja as instructed by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The youths chanted celebratory songs around the military base where the soldiers and APC leaders were quartered.

It will be recalled that soldiers led by APC leaders invaded Akuku-Toru Local Government Area on Thursday night, killing PDP supporters and arresting others.
After the release, Abonnema people led by Rowland Sekibo, Akuku-Toru Local Government Area Caretaker Committee Chairman took to the street in celebration.
