State Of Economy: Be Patient With Buhari, UPP Urges Nigerians

The national chairman of United Progressive Party (UPP) Chief Chekwas Okorie has urged Nigerians to continue to have confidence in the ability of President Muhammadu Buhari to turn around the poor state of the economy he inherited from the previous administration.

Speaking with newsmen in Abuja, yesterday, Chief Okorie admitted that Nigerians are passing through hardship occasioned by the past administration’s poor management of the economy but noted that nobody envisaged the rot in the system that Buhari inherited.

He likened the poor state of economy that Buhari inherited to the type that President Barack Obama inherited in 2008 but noted that with deliberate policies, Obama turned around the US economy, adding that he has absolute confidence on the ability of President Buhari to achieve the same fit in Nigeria.

He said: “I feel the impact of the poor state of the economy and it is not something that was created by the present government. The government inherited a very terrible situation and even during the time of campaign, because I also campaigned as a presidential candidate of my party, none of us expected the situation to be like this. I will appeal to Nigerians to give Buhari administration a chance and be a little more patient.

“This government is not up to a year old, it would be some months before it makes one year. And it has a four year tenure, what we are experiencing is no different from what many countries have experienced.
