BENUE APC REAFFIRMS CONFIDENCE IN ORTOM

Major stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Benue State have reaffirmed confidence in the administration of Governor Samuel Ortom.
They made the reaffirmation today at a meeting held at the New Banquet Hall of the Benue Peoples House, in Makurdi.
The decision was contained in a communique signed by State Chairman of the party, Comrade Abba Yaro, and Secretary, Mr. Onov Tyuulugh.
Speakers for the various Senatorial Districts in the State, Elder Patrick Ahenjir, Benue North East, Chief Akange Audu, Benue North West and General Lawrence Onoja, retired, Benue South, all reaffirmed confidence in the Ortom administration and endorsed its policies.
They said the Governor has lived up to expectations in governance and has taken the right steps in addressing security challenges particularly the recent invasion of the state by herders.
“The speakers appealed to him to sustain regular interaction with the stakeholders at which he would provide information about his activities, to reactivate the Idekpa and Katsina-Ala Radio Benue booster stations as well as tackle new waves of criminality in the state.
The stakeholders comprised the party’s expanded state caucus, members of the State Executive Council, caretaker committee chairmen, the Speaker and Members of the Benue State House of Assembly as well as the former Deputy Governor of the state, Chief Steve Lawani.
The Governor gave a comprehensive briefing on all aspects of his administration in all sectors, particularly on the income and expenditure of the state government including issues of bailout and loans.
He regretted the invasion of several parts of the state by rampaging herdsmen who he said were aliens, especially Agatu local government area, with massive attendant destruction of lives and property but said the state government, with the support of the Federal Government, has been able to deploy security agencies to the affected places and that the situation had been brought under control.
Governor Ortom disclosed that both the State and National Emergency Management Agencies have been providing relief materials to the internally displaced people.
He appealed to the stakeholders to prepare for council elections by setting up a committee to move round the state and encourage the local government executives of the party to ensure zoning and concensus councillorship and chairmanship candidates of the party across the state.
Chairmen of the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Rev Dr Phillip Tachin, and the Benue State Internal Revenue Service, BIRS, Mrs Mimi Azape-Orubibi, also briefed the meeting on the criteria for assessing contracts as well as tax issues.
Party Chairman, Comrade Yaro announced the formation of a zoning committee with Mr Saawuan Tarnongu, Special Adviser on Politics, as chairman disclosing that members would be sworn-in next Thursday at the party secretariat.Read more
