The Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Police has paraded a middle aged woman named Chibuzor Okoye who allegedly stole and sold a baby girl to a couple in Onitsha, Anambra State.

The State Commissioner of Police, Hilda Harrison, addressing newsmen at the Command headquarters said that a teenage girl named Tessy Obianua became pregnant and was taken from Ogbese in Ondo State by her father’s neighbour to Onitsha where her baby was collected from her and sold to a couple in need of a baby for 500,000 Naira.

After ‎five months, Tesssy came back without the pregnancy and without a baby.

The father then reported the case to the Police and the men at the Criminal Investigative Department of the Command swung into action and arrested the suspected child thief and the couple she allegedly sold the baby girl to in Onitsha.

Tessy also narrated her experience. She said that one Mrs Chibuzor Okoye, based in Onitsha, took care of her during her pregnancy and after delivering the baby, she slept off and the baby was taken away from her.

Thereafter, Mrs Okoye gave her a note to sign that she did not want the baby and would never demand for her again.

The suspect on her part said a man who is a neigbour‎ to Tessy’s father told her that her father drove her away from home as a result of the pregnancy adding that the father had attempted to abort the pregnancy.

The suspected child thief claimed that Tessy had also told her earlier that both she and her father did not want the baby, and hence she offered to take the baby to a couple in Onitsha who needed the baby.
